From the 1st of January of their Year 9 school year through to when they turn 18, teenagers are entitled to free dental care at dental clinics that hold the Oral Health Service Agreement with Te Whatu Ora. This free dental care is available for all teens, even if they are not enrolled in a school.
This service includes an annual checkup, preventative dental care such as cleans and sealants, and any required treatment. Treatments included are fillings (we place white fillings), root canals, crowns, and extractions (except when done as part of orthodontic care).
We provide this free dental care at Riverside Dental and have a dedicated team member for looking after our teenage patients, our Oral Health Therapist, Tayla. Tayla provides an extremely high level of care for her patients, including a detailed examination of their teeth and gums, education around caring for their oral health, and providing any necessary treatment to bring their mouth back to a healthy condition.
